VCU vs. Saint Louis prediction, line: Take the Rams
VCU has not been kind to bettors, sitting at 9-17 against the spread this season. But the Rams avoided catastrophe a week ago with Marcus Evans dodging a serious injury, and they will have him available for Friday night’s game at Saint Louis.
Evans led the team in scoring last season, and though his scoring is down, he still leads the team in assists and is shooting 38.1 percent from 3-point range.
That VCU backcourt advantage is big, considering Saint Louis is the only team in college basketball that has two players — Jordan Goodwin and Hasahn French — who both register at least 10 rebounds per game.
The Billikens’ weakness is shooting, as they rank 349th among 353 Division I teams in free-throw shooting percentage. VCU plays a high-pressure style in which it ranks eighth in the nation in steals per game, so there figure to be plenty of turnovers and free throws.
With Evans being one of five VCU players who generate a steal per game and Marcus Santos-Silva’s 9.1 rebounds per game providing a big lift down low, this sets up for the Rams getting a much-needed win.
The play: VCU, -1¹/₂.
