Three suspects in a residential burglary overlooked one of the most famous clues in the book – leaving their footprints behind in the snow as they left a home they had burglarized –
“Around midnight on April 5, 2020, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office responded to an address on Brockway Vista Avenue, in Kings Beach. The homeowner called 9-1-1 reporting they had remotely watched, via security cameras, as several suspects entered their residence and removed items.
Deputies arrived at the residence and discovered numerous sets of fresh shoe prints in the snow, leading away to a nearby motel. Deputies contacted two suspects who were initially cooperative, while the third suspect barricaded himself in the motel room. He eventually surrendered after Deputy Buckley announced he would deploy K-9 Chase.
The three suspects were linked to numerous residential burglaries in the Tahoe Area within the past few weeks. Stolen property from at least four separate burglaries, including a loaded firearm and a stolen vehicle, have been recovered.
The suspects are identified as Jesse Kulp, 42, of Placerville; Daniel McElroen, 29, of Rancho Cordova; and Amanda Whedbee, 34, of Carson City, NV. The suspects were arrested for burglary, conspiracy, felon in possession of a firearm and resisting arrest, among other charges.
Thanks to a diligent homeowner and the quick response from our patrol deputies, our detectives have been able to solve numerous burglaries in our area. This is an excellent example of how our community and your local law enforcement can work together to help keep our neighborhoods safe.”
