Toddler adorably mistakes Gritty for Cookie Monster

Consider this the internet’s most endearing mistake.

A toddler presented with a photo of the Philadelphia Flyers mascot Gritty mistook the trashy character for a beloved childhood figure.

“Who is that?” mom Gabby asks one-year-old son Grant as he looks at Philadelphia Magazine‘s 2019 “Best of Philly” issue.

His response? Get ready to feel slightly disappointed in the state of children’s educational programming.

“Cookie Monster,” Grant responds, despite the cover showing Gritty.

“It looks like Cookie Monster — that’s Gritty,” says Gabby, who refers to herself as “Flyers obsessed” in her Twitter bio.

The video, which scooped up more than 3,100 likes, got the attention of the mascot himself.

“Is it my eyes?” Gritty tweeted with the video to the tune of 3,100 likes.

While both the dessert-loving Sesame Street Muppet and the hockey mascot are colorful, fluffy and more than a little unhinged, Gritty serves no educational purpose and was engineered to terrify Twitter. He’s gained an infamous reputation for crashing weddings and getting write-in votes in elections.

Die-hard Gritty fans went crazy over Grant’s video.

“Honestly, screw Hobbes and Shaw, we need Gritty and Cookie Monster,” responded one fan.

“Gritty you should be honored,” writes another, tagging Cookie Monster’s Twitter.

“We’ll let this one slide,” the Philadelphia Flyers tweeted via the team’s official account.
