Teen says he acted on instinct when tackling school shooter
One of three students who tackled a gunman at a suburban Denver school says he acted on instinct when he lunged at the attacker.
Joshua Jones said at a news conference on Tuesday he’d been taught to escape school shooters, not attack, but he did what he thought was best at the moment.
Jones, Kendrick Castillo and Brendan Bialy tackled the teen who opened fire at STEM School Highlands Ranch south of Denver on May 7. Castillo was fatally shot. Jones was shot twice in one leg but said he’s recovering quickly.
Jones says the three pounced almost simultaneously, but Castillo made the first move, followed by Bialy.
A memorial service is planned Wednesday for Castillo, the same day the two teenagers charged in the shooting are due in court.
