Hedge-fund tycoon Ray Dalio is bringing “radical transparency” to kids — with a slimmed-down, illustrated version of his 600-page tome on business management.
The new, 160-page version of “Principles” released Tuesday, “Principles for Success,” presents the key lessons of Dalio’s bestseller in “an easy-to-read and entertaining format that’s accessible to readers of all ages,” according to publisher Simon & Schuster.
That means cartoon illustrations of a pointy-hatted backpacker boating down a maze-like river and theatrically tripping over a pile of rocks. The Bridgewater Associates boss is even offering free copies to teachers, who he said were hungry for an easier-to-digest version of his teachings.
Dalio’s kid-friendly rewrite says his No. 1 principle is to “think for yourself while being radically open-minded.”
“A lot of people, parents with their kids and school teachers, asked for it, and other people were saying, ‘You got your 600-page book, can you make it a quicker read?’” Dalio told Yahoo Finance.
The principles outlined in Dalio’s original book reportedly form the basis of his hard-nosed management style at Bridgewater, which he founded in 1975 and turned into one of the world’s most successful hedge funds.
One key rule is “radical transparency,” which has translated into a practice of taping meetings. Dalio’s practices attracted scrutiny in recent years in part because The New York Times detailed a sexual harassment complaint that likened Bridgewater to a “cauldron of fear and intimidation.”
“The fear of failure and the self-esteem loss that people have associated with failure stand in the way of their success,” he told Yahoo Finance.
