Oakville ‘non-essential business’ warned for staying open: Halton police

Hamilton, Halton, Niagara and area news from CHCH – Hamilton, Halton, and Niagara news..

Halton police have issued a warning to a business deemed non-essential after it was found to be operating despite orders from the provincial government to close.

Members of the Oakville District Response Team were called to the Oakville business after receiving numerous complaints it was still operating during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The government ordered non-essential businesses to close last week in an effort to combat the spread of the virus.

Police discovered customer access to the store was unregulated, there was no screening signage for COVID-19, there were no protective barriers protecting staff or customers, no measurements to ensure physical distancing, and no restrictions on the number of people allowed into the store at one time.

Officers issued a warning notice to the owner for failing to comply with an order made during a declared emergency.

Police also charged the owner for selling vapour products to minors.
