NYPD cop shot ‘best friend’ five times in Long Island slaying: victim’s family

The NYPD cop accused of gunning down his best friend in Long Island Tuesday evening allegedly shot him five times — including twice in the head — after an argument, the victim’s stepmother said.

The rookie cop — identified by sources as Errick Allen — allegedly opened fire at the victim at about 8 p.m. on Langdon Road in Farmingdale, police said.

The victim, a local pizza deliveryman named Chris, was hit twice in the head, twice in the neck and once in the shoulder, his stepmother, who gave her name as Ellen, said.

“That’s not self defense,” she added.

The stepmother said she was shocked by the alleged slaying because Chris and the cop were such close friends.

“He grew up with Chris. These are not two strangers. These are not two kids who just met each other. These kids grew up with sleepovers in each others houses,” she said.

“He was best friends with Errick,” she added. “They asked me if he had any other friends, the police officer, and the answer is really no. Errick was his best friend.”

At an unrelated event on Wednesday, Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder told Newsday that a fight between the two escalated into the killing.

“They met up. A struggle ensued. During that struggle, a weapon was produced and the victim was shot and killed,” Ryder told the newspaper.

“The suspect and victims were childhood friends; they grew up together,” he added.

No arrests have been made, but Ryder said police were probing the shooting as a homicide.
