Mountain bike, stolen in May, recovered off of eBay

KELSEYVILLE – In May of 2019 a citizen had their $7,300 mountain bike stolen. Then, on October 3rd, that citizen contacted deputies with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office after seeing the bike for sale on eBay.

The detectives then contacted eBay to obtain information about the person who was trying to sell the mountain bike. They then contacted the seller, who said they were posting it for sale for a friend.

Next, detectives identified 41-year-old Lakeport resident John Ferrer as the person who currently had the bike in possession.

No one answered the door of Ferrer’s residence on Alterra Drive. Detectives got a search warrant and this time, when they gained entry, Ferrer tried to jump over a fence in the back of the residence.

The suspect was unsuccessful in fleeing, and arrested. The stolen bike was inside of the residence, as well as “a small amount of meth.” He then told detectives a story – that “he had purchased the bike from a Hispanic male 3-4 months ago in Kelseyville. Ferrer could not provide any information regarding the Hispanic male. Ferrer claimed he did not know the bike was stolen.”

Ferrer was booked into custody on charges of grand theft, receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest. He “later posted bail and was released.”
