Mexican authorities arrest three in massacre of Mormon family – New York Post
Mexican authorities on Sunday arrested at least three people suspected in the cartel massacre of nine members of a Mormon sect last month.
Armed forces and intelligence agencies launched a joint operation early Sunday resulting in the “arrest of several individuals believed to be involved” in the slaughter of three women and six children Nov. 4 in Sonora, Mexico’s attorney general’s office said in a press release.
No further information about the suspects’ identities, their connection to the murders, or the circumstances of their arrests was released.
Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s office told CBS News three suspects have been captured. The operation follows an earlier arrest last month, officials said.
Mexican authorities have said the members of the LeBaron family — a breakaway sect of Mormons with US-Mexico citizenship settled in northern Mexico for generations — got caught in a conflict between affiliates of the feuding Sinaloa and Juárez cartels.
At least one member of the family has said the group was targeted by the drug gangs.
