Six people were killed and several more hurt when a gunman opened fire in a southwest German town on Friday, authorities said.
The shooting occurred around 12:45 p.m. local time Friday in a building near the train station at Rot Am See, a town of about 5,200 residents, Deutsche Welle reported.
A suspect has been arrested and no one else is believed to be at large, according to Aalen police.
“According to my information, there were six dead and several injured,” police spokesman Rudolf Biehlmaier told German broadcaster n-tv. “We are working on the assumption that this was a single attacker.”
The suspect, a German citizen, and one or more of the victims knew each other, according to Biehlmaier. Some of the victims were related, the police official said.
Preliminary information indicates the shooting was linked to “a personal relationship” conflict, according to Deutsche Welle.
