‘Friends’ cast to reunite for exclusive HBO Max special
They’ll all be there for you!
The cast of “Friends” is set to reunite for a special on HBO Max, the streaming service says, in a “celebration of the beloved show.”
The untitled, unscripted special will air in May 2020, WarnerMedia said, after “15 years, nine months and innumerable fan requests from around the globe.”
Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer will join forces at the original soundstage where the show was filmed on the Warner Bros. studio lot in Burbank, Calif.
“Guess you could call this the one where they all got back together — we are reuniting with David, Jennifer, Courteney, Matt, Lisa, and Matthew for an HBO Max special that will be programmed alongside the entire ‘Friends’ library,” HBO Max Chief Content Officer Kevin Reilly said in a statement.
In addition to the special, all 236 episodes of the Emmy-winning series will be available to stream when HBO Max launches in May.
Fans have long called for a reboot, especially after Aniston, 51, teased she was “working on something” with her former castmates in October. The actress also sent “Friends” fans into a frenzy when she posted a selfie with the gang that broke Instagram — as well as a Guinness World Record.
The show, which debuted in 1994, celebrated its 25th anniversary last year.
“I became aware of ‘Friends’ when it was in the very early stages of development and then had the opportunity to work on the series many years later and have delighted in seeing it catch on with viewers generation after generation,” Reilly said. “It taps into an era when friends — and audiences — gathered together in real time, and we think this reunion special will capture that spirit, uniting original and new fans.”
