Dallas Cowboys: Preseason Stock Report – Dallas Sports Fanatic

Dallas Cowboys: Preseason Stock Report – Dallas Sports Fanatic

The Dallas Cowboys are back at the Star in Frisco after three weeks of being in Oxnard, California for training camp and then traveling to Hawaii to take on the Los Angeles Rams for their second preseason game.

Quick notes

Demarcus Lawrence and Tyrone Crawford were activated off the PUP list on Tuesday. Both participated in individual drills. Sean Lee also returned to practice.

Garrett suggested that Byron Jones had a minor setback in his rehab. There is still hope for him to play week one but his status is very questionable for the opener.

Amari Cooper remains unconcerned with his foot injury that has kept him out of practice the last couple of weeks. “I’m not worried about it at all, because I know if it does linger, it doesn’t matter. I had 1,000 yards when I played on plantar fasciitis before,” Amari said while speaking to the media on Tuesday.

Ezekiel Elliott and his agent did not find owner Jerry Jones’ “Zeke who” joke very funny and actually found it to be “disrespectful.”

I personally do not believe this is a big deal or something that will linger once they agree to a contract extension. Garrett mentioned that he has stayed in touch with Elliott and has had “very positive” talks throughout the holdout process.

In other contract news, Jaylon Smith and the Cowboys agreed to a long-term extension Tuesday afternoon. The extension is for five years, $64 million with 35 million guaranteed.

Smith said several times during his press conference that he wanted to be a Cowboy for life and this deal will help him accomplish that.

Stock Up

Devin Smith

The former second round pick has quickly ascended up the Cowboys depth chart at the receiver position. Smith has recorded 6 catches for 78 yards and a touchdown in two preseason games. He has two more opportunities to secure his spot on the final 53 man roster.

Donovan Wilson

Donovan Wilson was the Cowboys sixth round pick of the 2019 NFL draft. He recorded an interception in the first preseason game against San Francisco.

He continued his solid play in Hawaii against the Rams and when the team returned home for practice Tuesday, he found himself getting first team reps over Jeff Heath.

Stock Down

Mike White

It is becoming more and more likely and almost a guarantee that the Cowboys will not be keeping a third quarterback. Mike White is not making that a difficult decision. Through two preseason games, White has completed 16 of 33 passes for just 117 yards averaging just 3.35 yards per attempt.

Jon’vea Johnson

Jon’vea Johnson was one of the feel good stories at the start of training camp. In two preseason games, he has just four catches for 39 yards despite having 13 targets.

Drops have been a big part of Johnsons’ struggles in the preseason. He still has two opportunities to showcase himself before the final roster cuts are made.

Next up: The Cowboys will take on the Houston Texans Saturday night at AT&T Stadium.
