A mishap put the Kansas City Chiefs in danger of forfeiting their huge matchup Sunday against the New England Patriots, but they’re expected to avoid that scenario.
According to ESPN, some Chiefs equipment ended up in Newark, New Jersey instead of Foxborough, where Kansas City and New England are scheduled to play at 4:25 p.m. Shoulder pads, helmets and footballs in approximately 35 players’ bags was being rushed to Boston to get it to the game in time.
The report says the Chiefs would have to forfeit if they don’t have their equipment by the scheduled kickoff, but it’s expected to arrive between 3-3:30 p.m.
The Chiefs, ESPN reports, are responsible for the misplaced equipment. A container with the bags wasn’t unloaded when it was supposed to be.
“I never heard that before,” a source told ESPN.
