An 89-year-old widow was robbed of money she’d been saving to buy her late husband’s tombstone in a violent attack at her Manhattan apartment, police said Thursday.
A brute had followed the elderly victim to her home on East 10th Street near Avenue D around 11:45 a.m. Saturday.
As she unlocked her door, the suspect grabbed her from behind and pushed her through the door onto the floor, shouting, “Where’s the money?”
The woman told him she had cash in a drawer in her bedroom — and he fled with $5,000.
The victim, who suffered a sore neck and back, told police she’d been keeping the money to buy a headstone for her husband, 77, who had passed two years earlier.
He is buried at a cemetery in New Jersey.
The woman was treated at a hospital and released.
Police released images and video of the suspect, who is described as 5 feet 8, 160 pounds, with a light complexion and a full beard.
He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a blue hoodie, blue T-shirt, white sneakers, backpack and a black and blue Philadelphia Flyers baseball cap.
