Bodyguard to Saudi Arabia’s King Salman shot dead in apparent dispute

The long-time bodyguard of Saudi Arabian King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud was reportedly shot dead following an argument with a friend on Saturday.

Royal Guard Major General Abdul-Aziz Al-Faghm was allegedly gunned down by Mamdouh bin Meshaal bin Ali at a house in the coastal city of Jeddah, CNN said, citing state media.

The two men were involved in some sort of altercation — the cause of which was not revealed — when Bin Ali left before returning with a gun and opening fire, the report said.

Two other people at the house, including its owner, were injured in the shooting.

Bin Ali then allegedly “refused to surrender” and died a shootout with arriving police officers, authorities said.

Al-Faghm worked for the Saudi royal family for roughly 15 years, according to Arab News.

Before serving as King Salman’s bodyguard, he was part of an entourage for late King Abdullah, the site said.
