SAUSALITO — A boat mechanic has been arrested for attacking another man with an axe aboard a boat anchored in Richardson Bay. The same suspect has a history of arrests for assaults and drug-related crimes.

On December 12 at 11:30 p.m., authorities began receiving calls from concerned residents living in a houseboat community. The callers reported hearing an argument followed by gunfire offshore.

Sausalito police were the first to respond and investigate the incident. Officers located a man who reported being attacked by another man swinging at axe towards him. Thankfully, no one was injured.

The victim reported that the suspect boarded his boat. The two men argued before the suspect started brandishing an axe. In response, the victim told police that he retrieved a handgun and fired warning shots at the intruder.

The suspect fled from the boat and Sausalito officers were unable to locate him. He was quickly identified as 45-year-old Christopher Parra, a repeat offender with numerous prior arrests.

Marin County Sheriff’s Office deputies later located Parra onshore near 2100 Bridgeway. They arrested Parra at 1:01 a.m. and transported him to Marin County Jail.

Parra was booked on two charges for assault with a deadly weapon likely to cause great bodily injury. He also faces charges for burglary and violation of probation.

Parra is well known to sheriff’s deputies. His record includes several prior arrests for assaults, illicit drugs, and public intoxication.
