Ben McAdoo interviews with Panthers, Jaguars as NFL return possible

Ben McAdoo’s NFL exile may be nearing an end.

The former Giants head coach coach interviewed with the Panthers for an assistant coaching position on new coach Matt Rhule’s staff, The Athletic reported. Former Chargers coach Mike McCoy also interviewed for an assistant’s position and it’s believed both could be vying for the quarterbacks coach job.

That is not the only job McAdoo is in consideration for. NFL Network reported on Friday that McAdoo interviewed for the Jaguars offensive coordinator position after they fired John DeFilippo earlier this week.

Ironically, Tom Coughlin is advising Rhule in Carolina as he makes the adjustment from Baylor to the NFL. McAdoo replaced Coughlin as Giants coach in 2016. After making it to the playoffs his first season he was fired at the end of the second one.

The Giants locker room crumbled under McAdoo’s watch and became the face of the ominous decision to bench Eli Manning for Geno Smith, ending Manning’s iron man streak at 210 games.

McAdoo was fired the day after that game — a Week 13 loss to the Raiders — and has not sniffed another NFL job till now.
