Antonio Brown’s 2019 NFL return chances are vanishing

Antonio Brown’s 2019 NFL pipe dream appears to be over.

The wide receiver isn’t expected to play again this season “barring a significant turn of events,” according to ESPN. The report comes as Brown is set to meet with the NFL on Thursday as part of the league’s investigation into sexual assault claims made against the 31-year-old free agent, who last played with the Patriots in Week 2.

Three teams have been in contact with Brown, per ESPN, but the NFL is ready to put Brown on the commissioner’s exempt list if he gets signed by a team. Brown would get paid but wouldn’t be able to play if he’s signed and placed on the list.

According to ESPN, some teams believe the league could discipline Brown after it finishes its investigation. Brown’s agent Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN he still thinks Brown will be back in 2019.

“I’m confident Antonio will play again this season,” Rosenhaus said. “I believe the NFL should clear him after they interview him this week and I expect he will be signed shortly after that.”

Brown went on a Twitter tirade against the NFL on Thursday, at one point writing, “F–k @nfl.” He later backtracked, saying he was frustrated and wanted to get back in the league.

He was back on Twitter Sunday morning with this message to his followers: “Retweet if u want me back in @nfl like if I should wait til 2020 !!!!!”
