Amazon warehouse workers in at least eight other states, including Illinois, have been informed of cases of the respiratory disease in their ranks.

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Amazon has temporarily closed a Kentucky warehouse after an unspecified number of workers tested positive for the coronavirus.

The online retailer said the Shepherdsville warehouse was undergoing “additional sanitization.”

“We are supporting the individuals who are now in quarantine and recovering,” the company said in a statement. “We are following all guidelines from local officials and are taking extreme measures to ensure the safety of employees at our site.”

The company didn’t specify how many employees have been infected with the virus.

Bloomberg reported Amazon warehouse workers in at least eight other states – Illinois, California, Connecticut, Florida, Kentucky, Michigan, Oklahoma and Texas – have been informed of cases of the respiratory disease in their ranks.

An Amazon spokeswoman declined to respond to questions about the number of coronavirus cases in its warehouses or potential adjustments to facilities built to carry nonessential items.
